The End of Love

Requiem by Lauren Oliver
Going into this book I read a number of negative reviews of this. So as I read I kept expecting something to happened where I'd think, "Wow, this must be what people were talking about," except it never really came. And just as a warning the rest of the review might be mildly spoiler-y.

Yes, the ending was a little ambiguous, but in a way I liked that. It left things open to interpretation, so in a way you could decide how things would play out. But one thing I really loved is that it ended on a hopeful note, something I was afraid wouldn't happen after the reviews I had read.

The whole trilogy reminded me of the Uglies books, which is why I wouldn't be surprised if Oliver goes the same way as that series. Those books were planned as a trilogy, but a fourth book was written. Except while the fourth book did take place in the same world, it was more of a spin-off of the original, and showed how the world had changed after the events of the original trilogy. And I know some may not agree, I would love to see something similar with the Delirium books.

I know I may be in the minority, but I think Requiem may be my favorite of the series. I'm not sure I can pinpoint exactly why, although I do think part of it is due to how quickly I read it after Pandemonium. I think if I hadn't waited over a year to read the second, I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but even so, I think not as much as this one.

5/5

Today I'm linking up with Blonde Undercover Blonde for Book Club Friday!

  1. I've been very curious about this series. I'm currently reading Lauren Oliver's book 'The Spindlers,' which I assume is intended for a younger audience than her Delirium books. There are so many YA series these days, it's hard to know where to start. So many books, so little time.
