From Miss to Mrs: Closing the Book

It's been almost 18 months since our wedding. I've written 59 posts recaping it, and I've yet to finish. At least until today, with my 60th and final recap post.

The Box for Our Wedding Album
When it came to booking our photographer, I knew there was one thing we had to had. I didn't need engagement photos, nor did I want to take bridal portraits. I didn't even care if we received hard copies of our pictures (although we did). Instead I wanted digital copies (for blog posts), rights to them (so I could print my own copies), and a professional album.
IMG_1537 - Copy
I know for many albums are something on the bottom of the list. After all, it's so easy to use an online photo service and create your own, which is actually what I did for holiday presents, but knew it wasn't right for me. I guess until you've seen a quality album its hard to know the difference.
IMG_1544
The Page Thickness of Our Album
Except I was familiar with them. After my Bat Mitzvah my parents' did buy a professional album, which I fell in love with. There just something about the thickness of the pages, and the quality that you can't find anywhere else. I still love looking through my album (and even my brother's from his Bar Mitzvah) to see it all captured and help relive the day.
IMG_1538
Getting Ready
If there's any regret with our album it's that I didn't beg and pay for more pages. As it is I couldn't narrow it down to the numbers of photos suggested by my photographer, which meant many of the pages had a collage of smaller photos instead of one or two larger ones.
IMG_1539
The Ceremony
Looking back I'm so glad I decided that an album was worth it, even if the boy wouldn't agree. I love knowing that this will stand the test of time. I know it's something I going to want to look through in years to come to bring me back to such to beautiful moment. And hopefully someday I'm able to show to our future children so they too can see the day our family started.

The Reception
Is a professional album something you did, or would, find a place for in your wedding budget?

From Miss to Mrs: Inspiration to Realty

I remember while planning our wedding, seeing bloggers make inspiration boards of their wedding and just wondering how they would be able to pull their vision off. Except then after their wedding, they would post a updated board, and it was so close to their vision. I was sure I would never be able to pull it off, but here I am on the other side, and I can finally say, I made it happen.

I never made an "official" inspiration board, but with pinterest, you know longer need to really think about it. Which made it easy to pull the following off my wedding board, with their source information below.

Sources
Row 1: 1 2 3 4
Row 2: 1 2 3 4
I then went through my wedding photos to find similar images that corresponded with my vision, and while It may not be magazine ready, I do think I pulled it off quite nicely.

How well do you think I pulled of my inspiration board? And do you have an official vision for your wedding?

From Miss to Mrs: The Last Lunch

A few days after our wedding, while members of my family were still in town I drove down to New Orleans for one last meal with everyone before they flew back. While this post may not be a wedding recap in the truest sense, it is one that follows chronologically. It was always a delicious lunch that I'd hate to not post about, so finally, it's happening!
8368233039_3ce0683128_o
I met everyone for lunch at Revolution, which is one of John Folse's newest restaurants. (Or at least it was when we were there over a year ago.) Just to give you a feel for the type of restaurant it was, instead of a normal salt shaker on each table there was tray a various colored salts to choose from.
Flavored Salts
Along with that variety, there were several different breads to choose. The ones below are only the ones I picked, but there were probably 2 or 3 other options.
Bread
We split a few appetizers among the table include a tomato salad,
Tomato Revolution
and black truffle beef tartare.
Black Truffle Beef Tartare
Not too surprising, but I went with a pasta dish for my main course.
Pasta
Although by far, the highlight of the meal was the dessert, white chocolate bread pudding creme brulee.
White Chocolate Bread Pudding Creme Brulee
It wound up being a delicious meal and a perfect way spend one final meal with family.

From Miss to Mrs: The Morning After

Almost 3 weeks ago, I posted the end of our wedding reception. Since I haven't mentioned the wedding since you may have thought I was finished blogging about it. But surprise, surprise, I have a few final recaps posts to come. If part of you is saying, it's been over a year, time to move on, I understand and promise to soon. But first...
Wedding Presents
The morning after our wedding, after I night the boy & I spent at the Crowne Plaza, we all joined together at my now SIL's house for a morning after brunch. We expected to be one of the last one's there, but be it a mix of adrenaline and the excitement of our first morning as a married couple, we actually arrived before most of the guests.
DSC_8229
But eventually friends and family arrived for a breakfast, leftover wedding cake, and present opening.
Opening my Ice Cream Maker
I'm opening my ice cream maker in the photo above, which of course I've yet to use. But I've been thinking of peppermint ice cream for the holidays could be a lot of fun, so hopefully I'm able to make that happen.
DSC07327
The boy even got in on the present action, opening one of his favorites, his mandoline, which he has actually made use of.
DSC07330
Before the wedding, I wasn't too sure about the idea of a morning after brunch. But I'm definitely glad it happened because it gave everyone a chance to be together one last time in a low key atmosphere before saying good-bye.

What are your thoughts on having a morning after brunch for weddings?

From Miss to Mrs: Don't Stop Believin'

After a long night on the dance floor, long after most everyone had taken off their shoes, our DJ announced our last song of the night, "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.
00756
I believe his exact words were, "Here's something specific picked by the bride and groom because it has a special meaning to them." And while it was specific picked up me, it was done more because it was what I liked most on a list of last dance songs.
00770
Funny enough, I spent the last dance with my MOH while my groom was in the back sitting down. Although it was fitting in a way, since I'd have the rest of my life with my husband, while my MOH and I are lucky if we see each other more than 2 times in a year.
00772
But after almost 2 years of planning, our wedding was actually over, and my husband and I went off towards off our first night together as a married couple.
00774
What did, or would, you use as a last dance song?

From Miss to Mrs: Tossing Fun

One tradition that we knew we would definitely do were the bouquet and garter tosses. I know that some people hate them because they single people out, or that they feel it's antiquated. But for us, it seemed like something fun to do, so they were definitely in.
00740
For the bouquet toss, we went the somewhat cliched way and used Beyonce's "Single Ladies" as our song. Yes, it may be a little over done. But that's because it's such a perfect fit.
00741
As for the song for the garter toss, I went with one of the boy's favorites, "Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
00744
You can probably tell the boy was very focused taking off my garter. Although that's probably because he was trying to avoid my feet, which unfortunately you can see in the picture, and I'll ask you to forget immediately.
00746
Funny enough, my bridesmaid who caught the bouquet, her date was the one who also the garter. And while it wasn't intentional, there weren't a lot of people fighting for it. I do remember thinking that the reception felt empty during the tosses and wondering how so many people had left without us noticing. And while people had started leaving at this time, I later learned that a group of people had gone on a tour of the plantation home and returned to the reception later on.
00749
What are your thoughts on bouquet tosses? Have you every been lucky enough to catch one?

From Miss to Mrs: Show Me the Money

Yes, the money dance. The wedding moment that gets people freaking out. Except before I moved to Louisiana I had never even heard of it. It wasn't till my first wedding in Louisiana that I saw it in action, and not till wedding planning that I realized what a big deal it can be for some people.
00705
In case you're like me and haven't heard of a money dance yet, it's basically a chance for the bride and groom to dance with their guests. But the catch is in order to dance with them you need to pay them money, and that's what people have a problem with.
00707
I wasn't sure whether I wanted to have one at all, and wrote about my thoughts in this post last year. But as you can probably guess considering I'm writing this post after the wedding with picture to share, that yes, we had one.
00709
Part of me was scared that no one would want to dance with me, and I'd be stuck alone on the dance floor. But clearly that didn't happen. And funny enough even though every photo I have from the money dance shows me dancing with girls, that wasn't always the case, since I remember dancing two of my uncles during it.
00715
Before the wedding I was sure that we'd only have it go for one song. Since again, I was sure there wouldn't be enough people who wanted to dance with us. And actually I thought it only lasted one song (which would have been "That's What Friends are For,") except watching some of the video from the wedding noticed a different song was planning, so it must have lasted longer.
00720
Of course as people come up to dance with you, you're left with hopefully a sizable stack of money. Not too big of a deal for a guy in a suit, but potentially an issue for a bride in a dress. Except my dress came with pockets, and while I didn't actually use them for most of the day, they did come in handy for this.
00718
All in all, I don't think a money dance needs to be for everyone. But if you choose to have it you'll likely have fun and even end up few more dollars than than you would have expected by the end of the night. (And yes, I wasn't the only one dancing with my own gender as you can see in this picture of the boy below!)
00713
What are your thoughts on money dances? Did (or would) you have one?

From Miss to Mrs: The Littlest Guests

I remember being in middle school talking to my mom about her wedding asking how many kids attended. "There weren't many. Only one or two," she told me. "You'll see but as you get older your friends tend to go through life events at the same time. Get married together. Have babies together. So when we got married we didn't know that many kids to invite."
00298
"My wedding will be different," I told her. "Even if I have to ask strangers to bring their kids to the wedding, I want there to be a ton of kids there."
00273
For a while it looked like my wish we come true since we sent invitations out to 10 kids ages 6 and under. But for a wide variety of reasons, the only 2 that attended were our niece and nephew.
00336
So while I may not have had the kid-filled wedding of our dreams, the kids that did attend seemed to have had a blast.
00538
I know at times children at wedding are a controversial topic. Some wedding locations don't lend themselves great to little people, while others are perfect for them. I'd actually say our location wasn't the perfect place for kids, but thankfully our venue had no issue with them.
00651
It's more than the location though. Sometimes it a money issue, where you're paying full price for kids who won't eat near us much as an adult. This was actually the case with us, where anyone with a seat was considered full price. Part of me understands the logic behind it, but if you have a ton of kids to invite, the numbers do add up.
00587
But probably the most important aspect of it is your own personal want. If you don't want kids at your wedding, don't invite them, and don't feel guilty about it. But if having tiny ones around is important, then find a way to make it happen.
00577
What are your thought on having or not having kids at a wedding?
