Weak at the Knees by Jo Kessel
Published: September 20, 2013 by Create Space
When you read this book you can't help but be transported across the world. The majority of the story takes place at a ski resort in the French Alps, which just makes me want to go skiing. Also, since the main character is English, there's all type of English words (using jumper instead of sweater or boot instead of trunk) that were a lot of fun for this American girl.
Not only are the locations exotic but the guys are as well. First there's Hugo, the rich Englishman whose everything a girl could want. Then there's Rod, the carefree young Australian skier, who you can't help but want to spend time with. Finally there's Olivier, the sophisticated, dreamy Frenchman, whose unfortunately already married. But still, don't forget about his younger brother Michel, whose still French and single.
Unfortunately, while the book had all the locations and characters that should lead to a fun book, and the bones of a good plot line, overall it just didn't quite work for me. Remember those times in school when you were told, "Show me what's happening, don't tell me." This is a classic case of that. There were times when it managed to work, but overall it just felt a little off.
It was a little predictable too, but that's not something I mind as much. I think that's what you expect in a romance book like this. Still, part of me wishes I had enjoyed it a little bit more.
