August in Review

It's officially September, and while I'd love to say it's starting to feel like Fall that isn't the case at all. It's still way too hot outside to believe that were not in the middle of summer. But sadly, it's pretty much coming to an end. First though, here's a look back at this past August.

In August...
Made it to the beach! #saradione30
...I spent a long weekend in California. I did get to spend some time with family, but the main reason for the trip was to celebrate my BFF/MOH's 30th birthday.

I'm not quite sure if I'll be writing up a full separate recap post of the trip, so just in case here's a picture of her amazing birthday cake.
7th Birthday Fun
...Also on the topic of birthdays, my niece had her 7th birthday.
Pistachio Crusted Salmon + Risotto
...As for the best meals of the month, most of those were in California. Before meeting up with the girls at the beach house I spent a night with family, where we went to dinner at Bo-Beau's. I had Pistachio Crusted Salmon with Risotto for my main meal,
Creme Brulee
with my go-to, creme brulee for dessert.
Huevos Rancheros
...For breakfast the next day we went to Restauration, where I had Huevos Rancheros (because you can't be in California and not have Mexican food),
Blueberry Pancakes
along with a stack of blueberry pancakes.

...I posted reviews of 6 books and 3 movies.
The One and Only by Emily Giffin
Cancel the Wedding by Carolyn Dingman
The Deception of the Emerald Ring by Lauren Willig
2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas by Marie-Helene Bertino
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin
Guardians of the Galaxy
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Hundred-Foot Journey
As for a favorite, there's definitely a few in the running, but it would have to be Cancel the Wedding.

...Last year, in 2013, I posted about a weekend with our niece and nephew where we all had fun roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

  2. I'm glad you had a fun trip.

My favorite part of August was spending the first 13 days of the month (and a few weeks in July) back home in NY visiting my family & spending quality time with them.

  6. Yum, that food all looks amazing. Especially the creme brulee as that is my favorite dessert to order in restaurants!

August was a blur for me but a great month. Some of the highlights were seeing all of my siblings and introducing Phil to them, celebrating Phil's birthday, and catching up with friends throughout the month that I hadn't seen since I moved back!

  7. Those blueberries look delicious! To be honest, I'll probably put chocolate chips rather than healthy fruit in mine next time I make some. ;)

The highlight of my month was definitely the opportunity to go to a book signing with some of my favorite authors. It's something of a rare occurrence for me.

    1. I'm definitely a fan of chocolate chip pancakes too! I tend to make them with berries more often though especially since my husband prefers them that way, but every once in a while I throw in chocolate instead.
