Nanny Returns by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus
I loved The Nanny Diares when I first read it, and was so excited to hear that they were coming out with a sequal. Except most of the reviews haven't been very good, so I've been putting off reading it. I just didn't want to be disappointed. But I finally sucked it up, and started reading. I'm really glad I did because despite all the reviews I loved it.
Nanny Returns finds Nan (turns out that's her real name!) back in NYC 12 years later with her husband Harvard Hottie (real name Ryan) after traveling the world. She's opened some sort of consulting company, and winds up getting a job at one of the elite high schools in town. And as you would expect in this sequal, she winds up mixed up in the X family's (a.k.a the family she used to nanny for) drama again.
It's been several years since I read the first, so there was a lot of details I couldn't quite remember. Considering this book does take place 12 years after the first, it seemed to make sense. But I also think that might be one reason I enjoyed the book. I do think it's possible that if I remember the first book a little more clearly this might not have lived up to my expectations.
But it so clearly did. Every chapter seemed almost like a cliffhanger for me. At the end of each it was really hard for me to stop, and most times I found myself saying "just one more," after all I read the book in less than a week. Part of me wants another sequal, but I do think that by the books end there was a comforting amount of finality between Nanny and the Xes.
So even though the reviews might not have been very favorable, I'm still a big fan. Maybe if you've been trying to decide to read it or not, this will give you the little nudge to make it actually happen!
