Mailbox Monday (79)

You may have noticed that earlier this week I shared my secret that the boy and I are expecting a baby in December. So it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to hear that I've had a few books in the wings waiting for the big announcement to make their Mailbox Monday debut. I'm happy to say that day has arrived!
Mailbox Monday
Purchased
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin
I've heard such, such great things about this book and knew it was one I wanted to read before giving birth. It's the first and so far only pregnancy book I've bought so far, but I'm really hoping to get a lot out of it.

Let's Nosh by Amy Wilson Sanger
There's a whole line of these cultural food books, but I figured the Jewish version seemed the most appropriate. I love how it hits all the major Jewish holidays and their traditional foods and also how the illustrations were done too.

Alice in Wonderland A Colors Primer by Jennifer Adams
Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles A Sounds Primer by Jennifer Adams
I'm absolutely in love with this BabyLit line of books and would eventually love to own them all. I did have a hard time only picking two, but these seemed like the safest gender neutral books since we don't know the gender currently, nor are we planning on finding out.

What did you find in your mailbox this week? And do you have any pregnancy or parent books you'd recommend? Or instead a favorite from your childhood?

While you're hear you may want to check out my giveaway to win a copy of When Camels Fly by NLB Horton!

  1. We absolutely loved The Mayo Clinic Guide To A Healthy Pregnancy. Friends of ours who were med students lent us their copy for Sam's pregnancy. Every time I had a weird symptom I could find it in there and was reassured it was all normal! We also enjoyed reading the "what your baby is doing this week" information.

We've had Let's Nosh out of the library and love that book too!!! I would also recommend "Everywhere Babies" by Susan Meyers and Marla Frazee. It was sent to us when we were expecting Sam and it follows babies through their first year of life. We LOVED it!

  2. No recommendations on pregnancy books, although I might have a few parenting ones from my time as a children's director. Have to think on that! I love the idea of starting kids on books early. I basically define my childhood by books. The first book I ever read independently was a Berenstain Bears book so they've always had a treasured place in my memory!

  3. Ina May's book is awesome. I do suggest you watch The Business of Being Born, a documentary that everyone expecting should watch!

  5. I love the BabyLit books, too. I got my niece Jane Eyre and she loved it!

I didn't buy any books this week, but I am thinking about buying Eleanor and Park because it's my book club book this month and I don't think i will get it from the library in time.

It's hard to pick out favorite kids books - there are so many I love! I really like the Sandra Boynton books as books with a rhyming cadence are fun to read. I also love the Llama Llama books, but those are for when the baby is older.

  6. Congratulations on your wonderful news!! I loved What to Expect When You're Expecting when I was pregnant but that's been so long ago they may have come out with something better.

  7. Aw, congratulations, Shoshanah! I asked my daughter (whose baby was born in Feb) for a book rec and she said the latest edition of What to Expect When you're Expecting and then a book that goes week by week (she couldn't remember title). I'm sure you'll get lots of recs :)

  9. Ina May's books on Childbirth and Breastfeeding were the most helpful books I read while pregnant. I skimmed through What to Expect so I had an idea what was going on each week.

  10. We have Let's Nosh and Alice in Wonderland! I love board books, we have so many, and I can't leave Target without buying a new one for Amelia!

She loves the Sandra Boynton books, they're fun rhymes about animals, for the most part!
