Two Kisses for Maddy by Matthew Logelin
I've been reading Matt's blog for almost 3 years now, and feel in love with his story. So it isn't really a surprise I was looking forward to reading his books I actually bought the book the day I saw it in a store, which coincidentally was the day it came out. While I couldn't wait to read it, I was at least a little skeptical. There's a fear when reading a book based on a blog, that you'll be reading the exact same thing you've rad before. Not that I didn't enjoy the story the first time, but I was hoping for something new. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised with new material.
In a way though, the fact the book is different from the blog makes sense. Matt's story is that his wife, Elizabeth, gave birth to their daughter Madeline, and 26 hours later Liz died from a pulmonary embolism. Imagine what we'd be able to write about this as it was happening. Now imagine what you'd write a year or two after the fact. With time and healing Matt was able to actually articulate the events that happened. As Matt has written on his blog, he was writing this book for Maddy, which seems to help explain why Matt wanted to capture the last moments he had with his wife.
I've actually never cried reading Matt's blog. But I found myself in tears several times throughout the book. I'd recommend reading this book in privacy, so people don't wonder why you're crying reading a book that has a baby on the cover. But while the book is sad, it is beautiful in its own way, and I'm almost honored that Matt was willing, and more so able, to share his story with us.
